Skalecki’s Iron and Salt Co. was born from a cast iron obsession, a garage in Grand Haven, Michigan, and a whole lot of trial and error.

We’re a husband-and-wife team who spent years moving through different apartments, cities, states, and even countries — but no matter where we landed, one thing stayed the same: our love for cooking with cast iron. That love came with its fair share of frustration. We made every mistake in the book. We scoured forums, read books, tested products, and seasoned pans over and over until it became second nature.

After all the research and all the scrubbing, we found that the answer was actually simple: salt to clean, and grapeseed oil to season. That’s it. But finding the right salt — the right coarseness, the right quality, and in a quantity that made sense — was nearly impossible. We were constantly buying tiny 1lb bags that ran out way too fast. So we decided to solve the problem ourselves.

We started Skalecki’s Iron and Salt Co. right out of our garage after buying our first home here in Grand Haven. Our goal? To offer larger, better-quality bags of cast iron cleaning salt, and to build something meaningful in our new hometown. We're just getting started, but our roots are deep in doing things the right way.
